Kenji Tei Ramen House

This is long overdue. I went to this place a few months ago with  friends and my cousin. I know i know... why take this long to post about it. When i started this blog i never really set out to feature food establishments. But as it turned out, i looooove sharing. Haha! I love sharing worthy food experiences. So i started nitpicking on past food finds and decided on featuring them on my blog. And here we are.

I'm always intrigued with new restos and this one was no different. Though i sampled just a few of their dishes, i was impressed. The broth used for the ramen was light but flavorful! I haven't enjoyed ramen this much since the last time my mom made some when she was here in the Philippines. I got the Seafood ramen since i love seafood and well... the server suggested it as well. Haha! Talking about this is making me crave for ramen right now!

We also tried the tamagoyaki (a must side dish for me) and beef curry rice. My cousin loved all the dishes and so did i. The tamagoyaki was cooked RIGHT. Yes i know its just egg but as all things are there is a right way of doing it. We were also surprised with the generous servings. The single serving of ramen that i ordered is good for 2! Well to me anyways. So when you order don't go crazy ordering multiple dishes thinking it won't be enough because it is and there might even be some leftovers if you don't have a bug appetite.

Kenji Tei Ramen House has branches in Alabang Town Center (near the cinemas) and Greenbelt 5.

'Til the next food trip!

Sauteed Mushrooms

I love mushrooms! My friends and i always order sizzling mushrooms when we go out for drinks. It's an ideal bar chow if i say so myself. My take on those sizzling morsels has a little kick. If you want it to be hotter just add more hot sauce!

Here's what you'll need:

1 can (425g) button mushrooms, cut in halves
2 teaspoons balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon Tabasco original red sauce
1 teaspoon Korean chili bean paste
1 teaspoon olive oil
1/2 teaspoon brown sugar

Mix balsamic vinegar,Tabasco, chili bean paste, olive oil and brown sugar in a bowl. Marinate mushrooms in mixture for 30 minutes. Heat non-stick pan and saute marinated mushrooms for a good 5-8 minutes. Serve while hot.

*If you have a hot plate like i do, you can saute the mushrooms on the hot plate. Make sure though that you grease the plate with butter or oil so the mushrooms don't stick. :)

Enjoy!

Pacific Love

Since i've been trying my hand on healthier living, i thought i should broaden my perspective on food choices. So finally i entered Healthy Options with a friend and scoured the racks for some interesting finds. I really wanted an alternative to milk since... well i'm not exactly a milk person. I like it with my cereal or smoothie but that's as far as my relationship with milk goes. I found these (above photo). It got me interested because of the flavors. I love anything hazelnut! I opted to purchase the handy sized ones 'cause i didn't want to buy a big carton and end up wasting money just because i didn't like how it tastes. Sadly, my hazelnut lusting self did not fall in love with Pacific Natural Goods' Hazelnut Chocolate drink. It was weird. It didn't have the hazelnut taste i was expecting. It tasted like soil mixed in with some water and cocoa powder (not that i've ever tried that). This kinda destroyed my streak on anything hazelnut. :(

On the other hand, i loooooooved the Almond Chocolate drink! The almond flavor really worked well with the chocolate. It was a perfect blend. This would be great for afternoon snacks. That one drink didn't make me feel like it was a failed attempt and made me excited to try their other products. Now if only it'd be available in local supermarkets so i wouldn't have to drive all the way to ATC to buy me some. :))

Beef Salpicao

What you'll need:

3 1/2 inch thick slices of sirloin steaks, cut into cubes
1 whole bulb of garlic, peeled and minced
2 tablespoons olive oil

Marinade:
3 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon pepper

Sauce:
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon olive oil

Transfer beef cuts in a lidded container. Mix marinade ingredients in a small bowl and pour over the meat. Massage marinade into the beef and let sit for about an hour. You can marinate the meat the night before if you want to save time. While you let your meat marinate, you can start on the sauce. In the same small bowl, mix the sauce ingredients and set aside. Heat 1 tablespoon of the olive oil and start frying the minced garlic until slightly brown. Remove the garlic from the pan and set aside. In the same pan, add the remaining olive oil and start cooking the beef 1 minute on each side. Since i'll be using a "sizzling" plate, i opted not to cook the meat through. If you'll be using a regular serving platter, add about 30 seconds on each side. Add the garlic and sauce after you've cooked one side of the beef. Once both sides are cooked (after about 2 minutes), transfer dish to the "sizzling" plate/platter. Serve while hot.

Enjoy!
